Dear Friend,
does it ever happen to you, that one of those little indicator lamps in your car start lighting up, and you think ok, I’ll do that tomorrow, then the day after you think oh yes, I’ll do that tomorrow, and 10 days later the car breaks down and you think damn, I was going to do that the week before last?
Or maybe you’re the opposite, and the very moment the light starts to flicker, you make a U-turn and materialise at the mechanic’s in real time?
And how do you go about the warning signs of your physical-mental-emotional system?
How long do they need to flicker, ache, and scream, before you pay some serious attention to them? That is, assuming you are aware of them in the first place. But are you?
I’m asking because I see instances every day, of how not feeling really good both physically and mentally-emotionally, is often considered normal. Normal in our times, normal at this age, normal in your profession, normal in our family, that’s how it’s always been. And in that kind of shared and accepted reality, the warning signs are seldom even recognised as such.
Not all unmet needs will kill you on the spot, that’s true and we see it every day, but my questions here are:
● Why should your needs remain unmet?
● Do you know what you need?
● Do you know what you want?
● Does it matter if what you’re lacking is an ‘actual need’ or a ‘mere want’?
● Who gets to decide how important it is?
If something as ‘frivolous’ as a perfume or a tie can make you feel more confident, and help you to get a better outcome, who has the right to say that it’s frivolous? I mean, they can say what they want, but why would you accept their judgement?
Only a very quick reminder for today:
You and only you (might) know what you need. And there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have it.
If you do know, give yourself whatever it is you need.
If you’re not sure, you can start with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to help you take the first steps.
Start at the bottom and work upwards, and go into as much detail as you can, until you get a list of all the things you see you would need, in order to feel exactly how YOU want to feel.

We’ll take it from here next week ❤️
