Dear Friend,
Do you remember, as a kid, creating imaginary spaces where you could go whenever you wanted? Did you have caves, forests, houses, special places that were in your mind and heart, where you would feel safe, at peace, at home?
I certainly did, and I still do, have a few of these places. Sometimes I even choose to go there at night, and sleep in them.
As usual, I’m suggesting you spend some valuable time in your imagination.
No matter if you go there to rehearse some aspect of your ideal life, to bring that timeline closer, to get creative, or just to rest and refresh, time spent there purposefully is always constructive.
The reason why this is so powerful is that our mind is not very good at telling whether things are real or imagined. Something unwanted that we imagine can feel scary real, then cause very heavy emotions in us, and eventually show up in our physical life; and the same way, something wonderful that we desire can feel equally real, make us feel happy and uplifted, and eventually show up in our physical life too.
The more your mind plays around in any scenario, the more it believes it’s real, and the faster it will actually become real, because your outer reality must, by the physical laws of the universe, mirror your internal reality.

I’d like to draw your attention to that deep, strong connection that exists between the mind and the body. That connection is the reason why our thoughts, as well as external stimuli we’re exposed to, will turn into emotions, which we recognise as such for the very reason that we can feel them in the body.
I started to find out how deeply the mind and the body are connected when I was 14. That year, after finishing 8th grade, I had to leave my adored old school, and start my public high school. It was horrible, I hated everything about it and every minute of it. I went from being a brilliant student to crawling around in the bottom-2-area of the class.
And the healthy, energetic kid I was before, quickly turned into a depressed and lethargic piece of cloth. On days when the mere thought of going to school felt worse than going to the slaughterhouse, I would become ill. Not fake it – although I became pretty good at that too! – but suddenly get a fever, or lose my voice completely, or have severe nausea and stomach pain.
I made a mental note of that.
And then I also found out how, if on one of those sick days my mother would say, come on, let’s go out and have a stroll along the sea front, I would instantly, as if struck by lightening, feel good again and full of energy, and ready to explode out of the house.
I made a mental note of that too. And the rest is history.

Let’s come back to our imagined, secret spaces for a minute. I’d like to share a version of that with you, that you can use anytime you want to change how you feel about yourself in a challenging situation you’re facing.
Say the situation demands more self-confidence than you can presently muster. Or more optimism, courage, energy, awareness, self-respect, anything really.
What you do is, you recall a moment in the past, when you were feeling the way you want to feel now. When you were confident, optimistic, brave, etc. Relive that moment, remember it, feel it fully. Now in your imagination, draw a big circle on the ground around you. Stay in that circle for a while, and let these positive images and feelings flow into it. Notice what that circle starts to look like. What colours is it taking on? What temperature? What sounds, what smells, what feelings? Then you can add anything you like to it. Flowers, candles, stardust, anything you want…
Now step out of the circle. Think about the situation you’re facing, see it clearly.
And then step back into the circle and take the situation with you. Be in the circle, and let all that beautiful energy and atmosphere you have in there, infuse the new situation. See and feel it change. That circle will always be there for you. You can take the situation back in there anytime later, if you need. And any other situation that needs a bit of that energy too.
You can keep expanding and embellishing that circle over time, you can bring any treasures and elements and energies you like in there. And you can have as many circles as you want, with different energies and for different purposes.
They can be as big or as small as you want, they can be drawn on the floor, they can be formed by stars and planets, by human beings or other creatures, by anything really. And you can conjure them up anytime you want, and have them around you in any situation, without anyone but you becoming aware of them.
I can see you smile, but please don’t dismiss this simple exercise as nonsense. This is backed up by millennia of wisdom as well as by modern neuroscience. You have nothing to lose and lots to gain, including some fun. ❤️
