Hello Friend,
I’ve been reflecting on a lot of different topics over the past four or five weeks, while creating some new material for my programmes.
I’ve gone through heaps of notes from my sessions, from calls with prospective clients, from books and trainings, from conversations with fellow coaches, and through my own journals. And I got yet another strong confirmation of the fact that everything in our lives, with no exception, is a direct result of mindset.
We’re likely to have specific mindsets around work, health, relationships, money, identity, innovation, morals, politics, learning, parenting, environment, anything really. It’s not only our opinions on things, but all those many beliefs that we hold, those convictions, those feelings, both conscious and unconscious, that dictate our choices and behaviours, and that influence our outcomes.
Sometimes we’re not really aware of how powerful, for good or for bad, they are. But then interesting clues may come from the way we speak about our reality or reality in general. When we say things like “In my next life I’ll be a fill-in-the-blank”, or “They’re filthy rich” or “No pain no gain”, or “She’s sitting on her fat arse all day”, what we’re really saying is “I’m doing the wrong thing, and for the wrong reason”, “I can never be rich because I don’t want to be filthy”, “Life is hard and there’s no way around it”, “I can’t and won’t rest, unlike some lazy and undeserving people out there”….
You know me, I may be a bit woo-woo (I personally call that ‘attuned to energy’, but there you go 😊), and I’m also very practical and down-to-earth. I often teach facts, techniques, more or less measurable skills, because we are in a 3D reality here, and we want to navigate it safely, and shape it in ways we like better. But I can assure you that everything we do, no matter how physical, tangible, and measurable, is down to maybe 20% action and skills, and at least 80% mindset.
So when any area of our lives is giving us great joy and satisfaction, it’s mostly because we have a healthy mindset around it.
I’ve met so many people who are absolutely amazing at something, a profession, an art, a sport, a skill, but their sabotaging mindsets prevent them from doing anything with their gifts, which often leads to sadness, resentment, even depression.
I believe that passion is crucial, you have to love what you do! But there will likely be challenges to overcome. Any dreams and goals you have will involve some effort, some discipline, these are requirements of our 3D reality, and that’s ok.
A healthy mindset lets you stay fired up and feel fulfilled even at times when things may feel hard going.
It helps you act with intentionality, knowing that each moment holds the potential for growth and transformation.
An unhealthy mindset on the other hand, will withhold so much joy and expansion from you!
Have a close look at those areas of your life that you’re less happy with. If they don’t feel great, ask yourself why that is.
Try and come up with as many reasons for that as possible.
● are you short of time, money, and choices?
● are you too old to that thing that you want to do?
● will you make a fool of yourself?
● is it selfish or greedy to have what you want?
● is money a necessary evil?
● is everything you like either illegal, immoral, or fattening?
● do you have to be broke to be a good person?
● does health come from doctors and drugs?
● is the world a minefield?
● is it impossible to find a decent plumber? (I’m not making this one up!!!
Once you have your answers, I’d like for you to tackle them one at a time, and ask yourself:
What if this weren’t necessarily so?
Then start exploring the scenario where you live that particular aspect with a different or opposite belief.
How would things go if you could feel differently about them? They would go differently, that’s for sure!
Things tend to go the way we believe they will.
There is no absolute truth about anything, in fact, there are as many truths as there are beliefs.
If I decide that only bad people have money, then this is my truth. I’ve seen a few bad people with lots of money and many good people who hardly get buy, and I know for sure that this is how the world goes. So I, who am a good person, will never have money, and am destined to always just scrape by.
What if this weren’t necessarily so? What if the fact of being good or bad people weren’t their only other distinctive trait, apart from being broke or rich? What else do the two groups of people have in common? For example, do the rich ones happen to be optimistic and driven, and the broke ones pessimistic and hesitating? Could you rephrase your belief as: “Optimistic and driven people have lots of money, pessimistic and hesitating people find it hard to get by”? What will change in your own reality if you embrace this new belief?
You see what I mean. For every belief you hold and that isn’t serving you, in any area of your life, you can find different ones that are equally convincing, but way more constructive.
Let me know if you want help with one of your beliefs, and we’ll take it apart together.
